The world's largest display of Lego art features intricate replicas of masterpieces

Girl with a Pearl Earring

As a lawyer on Wall Street, Nathan Sawaya felt like he needed a creative outlet. So he turned to Legos.

Sawaya started building sculptures from the blocks as a hobby, but got more serious about his work over time. He pursued ambitious projects like creating life-size sculptures of people, and found that when he displayed photos of his creations on his personal website, enough people looked at them to crash the site.

"I realized it was time to make a change," he tells Business Insider. "I left the law firm to become a full-time artist and go play with toys."

For the past decade, Sawaya has been building Lego sculptures as a career. His current exhibition, called "The Art of the Brick," mainly features Lego replicas of famous masterpieces, though some Sawaya originals are included as well.

Check it out.

A new 'LEGO Batman movie' trailer pokes fun at 'Batman v Superman' and it's amazing

The more footage Warner Bros. releases for "The LEGO Batman Movie," the more I think the studio should just invest in a LEGO Batman franchise.

Warner Bros. surprisingly dropped a fourth trailer for the animated movie Friday introducing a few new characters who will be added into the mix: the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) and Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson).

The trailer is so self-aware of what fans love — and would rather forget — about the hero. It doesn't even shy away from poking fun at the studio's "Batman v Superman."

One thing's clear. The team behind LEGO Batman get the Caped Crusader. The live-action DCEU could take some pointers.

"The LEGO Batman Movie" will be in theaters February 2017.

LEGO is the key to productive business meetings — according to a 'serious play expert'

Legoland

Michael Fearne is a LEGO serious play expert.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Fearne has spent 10 years running and facilitating workshops where people use LEGO to open conversations, work through problems and come up with new ideas.

He says that in a workplace with a mix of introverts, extroverts, visual and kinaesthetic people, listeners, talkers and more, traditional meetings don’t always enable everyone to be heard.

By changing the format to "serious play" organisations can engage everyone in a new, fun way.

Essentially, people are first asked an open-ended "question" to stir up ideas about a certain topic.

lego MB team.JPG

They then "build" LEGO models that represent ideas, concepts and experiences, and "share" what it is and why with the group, who in turn share their thoughts and ideas.

"It breaks down the business facade," says Fearne.

"Everyone says, 'I didn’t know I was going to say that' or 'I can’t believe I revealed that'.

"People can’t help themselves when they are playing, and have LEGO in front of them.

"LEGO is a tool that… gives access to the creative side of people."

The strategy is now used across many sectors of business from management to HR, educators and startups.

And while it may seem like something that not everyone would engage with, Fearne says in all the time he has been doing it, he has only had one person that "wasn’t quite into it."

There's a neat 'Lego Batman' Easter egg hidden in Apple's Siri (AAPL)

Apple's virtual assistant Siri is known for its quirky answers and hidden Easter eggs — and for its latest trick, it will pretend to be the "Batcomputer" from "Lego Batman."

If you say to Siri "hey 'puter" or "hey computer," it will fire out a number of responses based on the off-beat animated comedy.

"Hello, sir. I've heated up your lobster thermidor in the microwave," is one option." Or Siri might greet you with a "Hello, sir. Alfred is on the 17th floor, caulking the tiles in the second bathroom of the fifth master bedroom." (We heard about this trick via io9.)

If you're confused right now, "Lego Batman" is a new animated film about exactly that — Lego Batman. Its a sequel to the successful "Lego Movie" that came out in 2014, focusing on the gravel-voiced caped crusader. It's out in cinemas at the moment.

apple siriSiri is full of cultural references like this. Apple updated it with Pokémon-themed responses when everyone became obsessed with "Pokémon Go" in 2016, and it also has references hidden to classic movies featuring AI like"2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Blade Runner."

The "Lego Batman" references work on both the iPhone and Mac versions of Siri — give it a go. Other responses include "Welcome home, sir. I have your rom coms queued up, sorted by the decade," and "welcome home, sir. FYI, Robin is trying on costumes in the Batcave again. He's doing some pirouettes in Batryshnikov."

Last month at the international Toy Fair in New York City, INSIDER had the opportunity to check out a bunch of upcoming releases.

Some of the items we were most excited to see were new LEGO "Star Wars" sets. Unfortunately, there were no sets from "Episode VIII - The Last Jedi" on display — they're under lock and key — but we did get to see a lot of other sets that both collectors and kids will want.

Several new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" sets are coming this summer. The Jakku Quadjumper will come with 457 pieces.

You'll also get five different characters including Rey, Finn, and a tiny BB-8.

There's also this guy, one of Unkar Platt's thugs.

The Jakku Quadjumper will be out June 1 for $49.99. It's recommended for ages 8-14.

This magical tape lets you build Legos on almost any surface

LEGO tape nimuno

As any architect who has played with Legos can tell you (which, let’s face it, is nearly all of us), one of the most exciting yet struggling steps is just starting off on that tabula rasa of the standard, flat Lego base.

But for anyone looking to build something within the context of their environment, you were flat out of luck.

Now, that all may be changing, thanks to a new Lego-compatible tape, currently being funded on Indiegogo.

Lego_Tape_gifCalled Nimuno Loops, the tape roll is lined with Lego block-friendly bumps on one side, and a mild-strength adhesive on the other, giving you the ability to start building on any surface the tape sticks to.

The flexible strips can be cut and pulled around corners, into curves, and even onto other objects to turn them into custom Lego bases.

lego tapeThe strength and stickiness of the tape is still a question, but from the teaser video, it certainly seems more than capable of suspending rather large Lego structures even from 90-degree angles.

The campaign has already reached its goal, but it’s not too late to snag some of the tape for yourself; estimated delivery on the product is expected for this upcoming summer.

Check out the product for yourself here.

Lego just launched a giant Apollo Saturn V moon rocket set that comes with 1,969 pieces

This summer will be one small step for Lego fans, and one giant leap for nerd-kind.

Lego Ideas is launching a NASA Apollo Saturn V rocket set on June 1, 2017, to help space fans everywhere pull off historic moon missions from the comfort of their own homes.

Like NASA's storied space program, this kit will come with three separable Saturn V rocket stages, a lunar orbiter, lunar module, crew of three astronauts, and even an American flag for the microfigurines to plant on the moon.

But Lego's version won't cost billions upon billions of dollars, gobble up nearly 4.5% of the national budget, or need to be fueled with hundreds of thousands of gallons of highly flammable kerosene and liquid oxygen. Instead, each set of plastic parts will be scaled down 110 times, stand an impressive one-meter (3.28 feet) tall when fully assembled, and sell for $119.

Inside the box: exactly 1,969 pieces — a clever nod to the year of the first moon landing, by the crew of Apollo 11, in July 1969.

Lego rated the set for ages 14 and older. This should give parents a good excuse to steal it from their children, lock themselves in a bedroom, and gleefully assemble the space program of their dreams on a carpet.

The concept for this set got its start in August 2014, when users "whatsuptoday" and "saabfan" posted their Saturn V concept to the Lego Ideas community, which lets members create, submit, and vote on new set plans.

Within a year, their project received 10,000 votes from fellow fans of plastic bricks. This triggered an automatic review by a board of Lego set designers, and in June 2016, Lego announced that it would manufacture and sell the set. The company on Friday officially released the product. (As a reward, the two users will get 1% of the product sales and licensing revenue, minus Danish taxes.)

We can't wait to get our hands on this bad boy, but these photos will have to do until then.
