Bad to the Bone, Vesa Lehtimaki,

Vesa Lehtimäki has loved "Star Wars" since he was 10 years old. He saw the original movie in its first theatrical run back in 1977.

"For my generation, that's like Woodstock," Lehtimäki told Business Insider. He says he should get a T-shirt with the text "Star Wars 1977 theater run: I was there."

In 2015, the Finnish photographer released a book, "Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy," that depicts iconic movie moments from the "Star Wars" universe — in Lego form.

Lehtimäki shared some of his breathtaking images with us. Follow him on Instagram for more.

Vesa Lehtimäki said he had no idea how much money he had dropped on Lego toys — and preferred to keep it that way. (It's a lot, according to the Finnish photographer and father.)

He began shooting his kid's toys in 2009, reigniting his love of the "Star Wars" franchise.

Eventually, Lehtimäki started buying duplicate sets of the "Star Wars" ships so he wouldn't have to rebuild them after playtime.

the incredibles lego game

  • The Incredibles are getting their own video game this summer.
  • "Lego the Incredibles" was announced Wednesday morning. It will be the first Pixar/Lego video game released.
  • Fans will be able to play as the super-powered Parr family as they navigate through the storylines of both "Incredibles" movies.
  • The game will be available June 15, 2018, the same day as the release of "Incredibles 2" in theaters.
  • Watch a teaser trailer for the game below.

The Incredibles aren't just coming to theaters this summer.

They're also getting their own video game. Wednesday, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, and Disney announced a "Lego The Incredibles" video game.

The first Pixar/Lego game let's fans play as members of the super-powered Parr family — Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack — as they navigate through adventures from both "The Incredibles" and "Incredibles 2" storylines.

lego the incredibles game cover

TT Games executive producer Nick Ricks tells INSIDER "Lego The Incredibles" has been in the works since 2016 and they worked very closely with Disney-Pixar to get every detail just right.

"It has been our first time collaboration with Disney-Pixar and this has had a profound effect on how we’ve created our story, cut-scenes and characters," said Ricks. "This collaboration certainly comes through strongly with the innovations we’ve made in the characters designs and abilities, along with ensuring the dialogue, scene selection and camera work are some of the best that I’ve ever seen. On top of this we have a massive open-world hub, filled with crime lords that must be cleaned up, all new ways to build immense Lego structures and focus on the Parr family’s collaborative crime-fighting results."

What you'll do in the game

the incredibles video game

Fans will play through adventures from both 2004's "The Incredibles" and its 2018 sequel. A lot of the gameplay is being kept under wraps to avoid spoiling the new movie, but we can tell you the game will have story levels along with worlds to visit, including Municiberg and Nomanisan Island.

Both were seen in the first film.

Players will use the Parr's super powers to progress through levels and take down villains in each city. The game will include an addition that hasn't previously been seen in Lego games before.

"Alongside the narratives of both films, we’ve crammed our world full of the challenges and puzzles players have come to expect, and added something new; crime waves," said Ricks. "In these sections, our massive hub world has been sub-divided in to a series of districts, each under the dominion of an infamous crime lord. The players will need to use the family’s differing and unique crime-fighting styles to defeat the goons, confront the lords, and bring law and order to all."

Who you can play as

incredibles lego game frozone

If you've played any Lego game before, you'll be able to play on your own or team up with family or friends in a two-player co-op mode.

Ricks was careful to not give specific names, but it sounds like you'll be able to play as more than just the Parr family. The game will include characters from both "Incredibles" movies.

"All of your favorite supers, villains, and locations have been meticulously re-built in Lego style to combine the epic story telling of Disney.Pixar, with the endless creativity and customization of Lego play," said Ricks.

You can bet if the Incredibles are heading to Syndrome's headquarters of Nomanisan Island that the villain is bound to be there. The photo above shows the Incredibles' friend Frozone on, what appears to be, the same island.

Expect some Easter eggs

"One of the many meeting of minds that we’ve had over the course of this game, has been both TT’s and Disney-Pixar’s fondness for self-referential jokes and hidden references," said Ricks. "For us, its speaks of how kids play with their Legos toys, happy to combine and incorporate other minifigures and Lego bricks as best suits their imagination. It is precisely this imaginative stimulation that Disney-Pixar tap into as well, delighting and surprising their fans. Whilst I can't speak of any specifics, Easter eggs do feel like a very natural fit…"

"Lego The Incredibles" will be available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC June 15, 2018.

  • Many phone charger cords fit snugly in Lego figurine hands.
  • As one Twitter user pointed out, it can help keep your phone charger from slipping off your desk.
  • The tweet went viral and now everyone is sharing their setups.

Smart phones are great. What's not so great? When your phone charging cord repeatedly slips off your desk or table as you're trying to charge it.

No more. Rebecca Shapiro, an assistant professor at the University of Guelph in Canada, posted a picture on Twitter that offers an elegant solution.

She has a Lego figurine standing on her desk holding her charging cord. It turns out, the width of many charging cords fit snugly in the hands of Lego people.

The tweet inspired other people to do the same and share their own setups.

It's a small task, but sometimes heroes need to do it.

The method could also help with keeping the charger up on your car dashboard.

Some people used other toys to save their cords from slipping.

Apple takes augmented-reality gaming to the 'next level' with Lego and slingshot apps

Apple LEGO AR demo

  • Apple hopes to take augmented-reality gaming to the "next level" with multiplayer apps.
  • The company used its developer's conference to showcase Lego and slingshot games, built using its new and improved AR building software ARKit 2.
  • The Lego game allows you to create virtual worlds around your real-life Lego builds.

Apple hit the augmented-reality button hard at its developer's conference on Monday. On top of introducing the new AR app Measure, which acts as a kind of virtual measuring tape, it showcased the "next level" of AR gaming.

Apple showed off its new and improved AR building software ARKit 2 with a demo from Lego during the keynote address. Lego Director of Innovation Martin Sanders got up to demonstrate the game at the Worldwide Developer's Conference.

You start off with a regular, physical Lego building, but point the iOS camera at it and the AR makes it springs into life. You're able to build a virtual world around it, complete with characters, buildings, and the occasional disaster.

arkit 2 lego game

Not only this, but you are able to do so with the help of a friend. Multiplayer AR has been a tough nut to crack, but the demo showed that in "Lego AR City" two users are able to operate within the same virtual space.

"It seems like such a simple feature," Sanders told TechCrunch, "but to create together is the next level I think. It really turns a corner from a creative perspective."

Apple showcased these same multiplayer capabilities offstage with another app developed on ARKit 2 called SwiftShot. The game pits two teams of two against each other in competitive slingshotting, with each team trying to knock down virtual pillars belonging to their opponents.

The Verge played with the app at WWDC:

If Apple's new ARKit 2 really delivers on what it promises with fully functional multiplayer AR games, it could hold really exciting possibilities for gaming in the future. Plus, it could mean fewer excruciating Lego bricks to step on.

As for Fox Sports, hosting the World Cup in full on television has not won the network much good will.

Duncan Titmarsh is the UK's only certified Lego builder. He has a giant factory with over 35 million bricks and 24 builders working full-time. They complete an average of 600-700 projects per year.

Prices for the models range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of pounds.

He began building Lego models a decade ago in his garden shed, started a small part-time business, and then got certified by Lego in 2010.

His biggest one to date is a Lego Tower Bridge for Land Rover. It took 5.8 million bricks, 25 people, and 6 months to build. It weighed 5.5 tons, was 40m long, and 40m tall.

Duncan's factory has almost every possible Lego piece – from weapons to pizza slices, and even tiny croissants.

Lego models are glued for health and safety. Some have a steel frame to keep them robust.

Duncan is one of only 16 certified Lego builders in the world.

LEGO House

In Billund, Denmark, the fantasy of inhabiting a Lego house has become reality.

Earlier this October, Lego unveiled its new Lego House — a 130,000-square-foot building that is equal parts experimentation lab, prototype testing grounds, and shrine to the colorful bricks.

Here's what it's like inside.

From the street, the building looks white. It's only from above that viewers can gaze upon the multi-colored roofs and outdoor seating.

In partnership with architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group, which designed the structure, Lego began building the Lego House in 2014. Initially, it used as its model a small-scale replica made from (big surprise) Lego bricks.

The 1:100 model toured the world, stopping in places like Switzerland, France, and the US. It also visited BrickCon, one of the largestLego conventions in the world, in Seattle, Washington.

Even before you enter Lego House, the building dwarfs you as you climb atop the over-sized Lego bricks spanning opposing sides of the building.

Inside Lego House, visitors can tour multiple rooms meant to engage people emotionally, creatively, socially, and cognitively.

In the Green Zone, dedicated to socialization, visitors can create minifigures ("minifigs," for short) and stitch together their own stop-motion videos.

In the Yellow Zone, designed to explore emotions, people can build sea life from LEGO bricks and scan them into an iPad software setup to see the creature come alive.

Lego is selling a 'Women of NASA' set featuring 4 female scientists, engineers, and astronauts

Update: The "Women of NASA" Lego set is now on sale.

Lego announced on Wednesday that it would release a "Women of NASA" set.

The $25 kit goes on sale November 1 — just in time for the holiday gift-giving season — and builds on a laudable trend of selling toys that are more inclusive of women.

"Women of NASA" features four mini figurines of pioneering women from the space agency: the astronauts Sally Ride and Mae Jemison, the astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, and the computer scientist Margaret Hamilton.

Each figurine will also come with a backdrop related to their work at NASA, including the space shuttle Challenger and the Hubble Space Telescope.

Maia Weinstock, a deputy editor at MIT News, submitted her idea for the kit in July 2016 to Lego's Ideas community, where members create and vote on new set plans. If Lego picks an idea from the site, submitters get a 1% cut of sales and licensing revenue.

Weinstock's submission got more than 10,000 votes, triggering an automatic review by Lego staff, which decided to manufacture and sell it. (Lego's giant Saturn V moon rocket set, released in June, came about the same way.)

Here's a close-up look at the kit and what it includes — and one very important piece it's missing.

Lego's 'Women of NASA' toy set is finally on sale — and it's already Amazon's best-selling toy

  • Lego's new "Women of NASA" toy set went on sale for $24.99 on November 1.
  • The product, which a female journalist pitched to Lego, features four famous women from the US space agency who are scientists, engineers, astronauts, and entrepreneurs.
  • "Women of NASA" follows a powerful trend of Lego selling toys that are more female-inclusive.

Lego's new "Women of NASA" set is now available, and the product has already risen to the top of Amazon's list of best-selling toys.

The set of 231 plastic pieces costs about $25 and went on sale Wednesday morning. Its instant popularity is not surprising to those who have been following Lego's laudable — and presumably profitable — trend of selling toys that are more inclusive of women.

"Women of NASA" features four mini figurines of pioneering women from the space agency: the astronauts Sally Ride and Mae Jemison, the astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, and the computer scientist Margaret Hamilton.

Each figurine comes with her own backdrop of relevant NASA work, including a mini-space shuttle Challenger for the astronauts and a mini-Hubble Space Telescope.lego ideas nasa women female scientists astronauts kit assembled

The toy set has a grassroots origin story. Maia Weinstock, a deputy editor at MIT News, submitted her idea for the product to Lego's Ideas community in July 2016. Members on that site create and vote on other users' plans; if Lego picks the idea, creators get a 1% cut of sales and licensing revenue.

Weinstock's submission received more than 10,000 public votes — which led Lego to ultimately refine, manufacture, and sell the "Women of NASA" set. (Lego's giant Saturn V moon rocket set, released in June, came about the same way.)

One figurine is missing from Weinstock's original kit proposal, though: Katherine Johnson, a mathematician at NASA whose remarkable story of working on the Mercury and Apollo programs was the focus of the film "Hidden Figures."

"In order for us to move forward with a partner we need to obtain approval from all key people, which was not possible in this case. We naturally fully respect this decision," a Lego representative told Gizmodo in an Oct. 25 story.

NOW WATCH: Lego's headquarters is about to get a huge renovation, and it looks amazing

The price of Lego's 'Women of NASA' toy set is skyrocketing online under crushing demand

  • Lego released a new all-female "Women of NASA" toy set on Wednesday for $24.99.
  • Amazon reportedly sold out of the product, which had become its best-selling toy.
  • Third-party shops are now selling the in-demand kit for about $100 more through popular online retailers.

Lego's highly anticipated "Women of NASA" toy set went on sale Wednesday for a suggested retail price of $24.99.

But if online sales are any indication, the kit of all-female mini-figurines is shaping up to be one of the hottest toys of the holiday shopping season.

Amazon, arguably the world's largest online store, has already sold out, according to CNN— and now prices offered by partner retailers are skyrocketing.

Twitter users expressed dismay at the situation on Friday afternoon. One said the price had jumped $100 overnight.

sarit chalamish saritc amazon lego women of nasa twitter

The instant popularity of "Women of NASA" is not a shock to those who've followed Lego's commendable trend of selling more female-inclusive products— they're in high demand because consumers want more representation in toys they gift to kids.

On Thursday, "Women of NASA" became the best-selling toy on Amazon.

By Friday morning, however, the toy's price on popular online retail sites had skyrocketed four- to six-fold. The product was listed for $125.99 on Amazon as a Prime-eligible item. An even higher price of $149.99 appeared on the website of Wal-Mart, another online-retailing giant, with only about five items left.

Prices on eBay ranged between about $55 and $170, including the cost of shipping.

amazon women of nasa lego set Screen_Shot_2017 11 03_at_12_12_21_PM

Lego is selling the set for $24.99 on its own site, plus about $4.95 in shipping, and the site does not appear to be out of stock — yet.

These days, big online retailers like Amazon earmark, sell, and ship their own stock of products, which sell for roughly the suggested retail price of the manufacturer. When those items sell out, however, many sites automatically include options from approved third-party sellers.

This may have fueled the skyrocketing prices for Lego's "Women of NASA" set, akin to what happened during Hurricane Irma, when "life-sustaining necessities" were sold on Amazon at inflated prices. A similar scenario occurred with the popular Hatchimals toys in November 2016.

Amazon sources told Business Insider that if third-party retailers set prices too far above a certain threshold, Amazon may remove the 'buy' box from that product page, and kick it out of search results — that is, until prices relax or Amazon refreshes its own stock.

Wal-Mart did not immediately respond to our questions.

As for the "Women of NASA" set priced at $24.99? Amazon sources said the online giant will have it "back in retail this season" but did not specify when.
